If you’ve been reading the news crawl on CNN or Google or pretty much anywhere, you might know that a coastal rainstorm is hitting CA pretty hard right now. We don’t get that much rain here. In fact, for much of the year we can count on absolutely dry weather, which can be nice if you’re going camping.
When we do get rain, it is not of the gentle Midwestern sort that is good for long thoughtful walks. It is heavy, driving, and cold. It causes flooding. It is accompanied by wind that drives it through every gap in your rain coat. It soaks through your pants and your shoes.
I was out earlier, and returned home with my jeans thoroughly wet. I removed them, laid them out to dry, and took a hot shower I lamented my wet jeans, and the fact that they were drying so slowly in the damp weather. I wished I had a heater or fire to help dry them out. I did this for an hour, sitting around in a pair of boxer shorts. That’s right. An whole hour.
Then I realized two things: I HAVE A DRYER, and, THAT WAS NOT MY ONLY PAIR OF JEANS.
Gah.
